STAND UP AND OWN IT!
We have an opportunity to make a difference every day; an opportunity to shape the future. This requires a Stand Up and Own It mindset characterized by three key behaviors. Our actions speak louder than our words; when we Stand up and Own It we make a difference every day.
Grades 3 - 4 - 5
a) Can you give examples of acting with purpose in the following areas: cafeteria, hallway, recess and classroom?
b) Can you share a time when you did the right thing - when it was hard?
c) Can you share a time when you OWNED your mistake? What happened after you OWNED your mistake?
d) What happens when we blame, complain or defend when you make a mistake? Do you achieve your goal?
Grades 1 - 2
a) How can you practice doing the right thing at school?
b) What can you do to make our school a better place to learn and grow?
c) What can you do to practice "owning" the mistakes that you make?
- Act with purpose. Whatever the situation, we need to ask: “Am I acting with purpose? What can I do to make our home and school a better place to learn and grow?”
- Do the right thing, especially when it’s hard. This is about behaving with honor. If we say we will do something, we do it. If there is an opportunity to do something that we know is the right, we take it.
- Own your actions. We make sure that everything we’re involved with is a little better because of our participation. When we make mistakes, we take ownership. We don't BLAME, COMPLAIN, or DEFEND. We make every effort to fix the mistake. And we learn from it so that the mistake isn’t repeated.
