How to work with someone that you do not agree.
In order to help create a positive school environment,
it is important to be able to share ideas with people with which you disagree.
it is important to be able to share ideas with people with which you disagree.
These are steps that may help you to be successful at working with people which you disagree.
1) Press Pause so that you can Stay above the line
a) Politely excuse yourself from the group.
Example: "Please excuse me, I need a moment to press pause."
2) Do you need to Retreat?
If you answer yes to any of these questions then you need to retreat so that you can Regroup and Re-enter the conversation.
If not, then go directly to step #4 Prepare to Reenter
a) H.A.L.T – Are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired?
b) Is the person you are talking to very emotional?
c) Is the place that you are having the conversation not a good place or a good time?
d) Are there too many people listening to this conversation?
3) Regroup – 5 minutes
Stop thinking about the disagreement by doing some of these activities (something to put you in a more positive mindset)
a) If available, eat a small snack
b) Sit quietly – maybe close your eyes
c) List three good qualities of the person with which you are having a disagreement.
d) List some things that you are thankful for... ice cream, mom, dad, friends... etc.
4) Prepare to Reenter above the line –
Okay… you aren’t going to become best friends, but you can still be friendly…
a) Make a plan for how you will interact.

Make sure you start the conversation and end the conversation with a positive comment.
